Have you heard of Bulletproof Coffee? Well, it is an interesting concept… adding coconut oil and butter to your coffee and blending it up each morning sounds like it might be a little, well, unconventional and maybe even gross?… Making your coffee this way has supposed health benefits for the brain, it’s known to enhance energy, curb cravings and feed your brain some good fats early in the day to keep you going all day long.
So obviously, me being an extra virgin olive oil fan, I thought I would do a little experiment and try out an olive oil version of this drink. Since extra virgin olive oil is associated with many, many benefits to the human body – it nourishes the brain, supports a healthy cardiovascular system, it can help to reduce pain and inflammation, it’s packed with anti-oxidants, supports cell regeneration, and it is one of the healthiest fats out there (so long as you’ve got the real stuff!) I thought, I’ve got to try this out!
I drank Bulletproof Coffee every morning for an entire work week and I will say, my energy was through the roof! (Not what I need according to my co-workers as they think I already have unlimited energy). Not only were my energy levels super high, they were pretty well sustained throughout my entire morning. My brain was also very sharp, I had strong focus and was extremely productive at work every morning.
And did I mention how delicious it was? I started with fresh coffee beans in a french press, then once that was brewed, I blended up the coffee with a bit of ghee and, the star of the show, our Balanced Extra Virgin Olive Oil. After the first sip, I was pleasantly surprised and pretty happy about my weekly experiment and looking forward to the next 6 days!
1 WEEK OF BULLETPROOF COFFEE
Day 1: I thought it was going to be a little, well, gross… as I had mentioned above, but I was super surprised at the creaminess provided by the ghee (or butter if you prefer) and olive oil emulsified into the coffee. I drank it and my hunger was suppressed till about 11. It was nice to have that on my drive into work and not have to worry about what I was having for breakfast or even think about it because I didn’t get hungry.
Days 2 & 3: These are the days I really started to notice my focus and production at work was better than usual. I was able to get more done and I was more efficient in the ways I was completing tasks. These were the two best days because of the realization of my efficiency during them.
Days 4 – 7: The last half of the week, I began getting used to the way I was feeling, enjoying the fact that I didn’t have to think about food until around lunch time, with no blood sugar woes or dizzy spells or hunger pangs. I was also enjoying getting so much work done and having a creative boost to my daily tasks.
