The Perfect Olive Oil Fried Egg
What's your favorite way to start the day? For me, it's sitting on my balcony with a couple of fried eggs and a fresh cup of coffee. Something about a simple breakfast just seems right.
To make my fried eggs even better, I use olive oil. I usually stick to a good, high quality extra virgin olive oil, and use about 5 tablespoons or so. Healthy and delicious, you just can't beat that golden crispy goodness. Would you try it? Good! I'm going to teach you how to make the perfect olive oil fried egg.
Why Fry your eggs with olive oil?
We've heard the rumors, and you probably have too, but they aren't true! You can, indeed, fry with extra virgin olive oil and actually should. The smoke point isn't too low and heating the oil won't turn it "bad". This is because of the high amount of monounsaturated fat found in olive oil. Monounsaturated fats protect the oil from high heat, and olive oil contains the highest amount of monounsaturated fat than any other oil. If you're still a skeptic, we've got research to back it up.
The Perfect Olive Oil Fried Egg
1. Heat 5 tablespoons olive oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat.
2. After 1-2 minutes when oil is hot, crack your egg into the skillet, add salt and pepper. (Oil will bubble, it's okay!)
3. Cook for about 2 minutes. Rotate the skillet occasionally, until the edges of your egg are golden and crisp. For an extra crispy egg, leave it on the skillet for another 30 seconds.
