How To Make a Healthier Salad Dressing

Making healthier food choices for you and your family can seem almost daunting if you don't know where to start.

One huge (and simple) change in your every day cooking and food prep could be replacing a store bought salad dressings with quick and easy homemade dressings. This is always a smart choice because this means reducing the amount of preservatives, fillers, dyes and processed foods that go onto your plates and into your body each and every day.

We've provided some of our favorite healthy alternatives to some very popular salad dressings that you can easily whip up at home. Enjoy!

Healthier Vinaigrette:

Healthier Ranch Dressing:

  • 1/2 cup full-fat plain greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons fresh lemon juice (or Apple Cider Vinegar)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried dill or fresh chopped chives
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
  • 2 tablespoons water to thin dressing

    Place all ingredients into a medium bowl and whisk together until well incorporated. Drizzle over salad and enjoy.
    **To make a Chipotle Ranch Dressing, add 3/4 teaspoon Chipotle Chili Powder to this recipe before whisking together.

Healthier Thai Peanut Dressing:

  • 1/4 cup peanut butter (try to choose one with just peanuts and salt)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce or coconut aminos
  • 2 teaspoons raw, local honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried ground ginger (or 2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger)
  • 2 teaspoons Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2-4 tablespoons warm water, to thin dressing
  • Optional: 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper for a spicy kick

    Place all ingredients into a medium bowl and whisk together until well incorporated. Drizzle over salad and enjoy.

Healthier Greek Dressing:

  • ¼ cup red wine vinegar (or White Balsamic Vinegar)
  • 3 tablespoons Balanced Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

    Place all ingredients into a medium bowl and whisk together until well incorporated. Drizzle over salad and enjoy.

Healthier Caesar Dressing:

  • 3/4 cup full-fat plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons Balanced Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 anchovy fillets (optional)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce 
  • 1 large garlic clove
  • Salt & Pepper to taste

    Place everything into a blender and mix until emulsified. Drizzle over salad and enjoy.
