New Year's Resolution: Use More Olive Oil

New Years Resolution Use More Olive Oil

Good health - that's my resolution for 2017. Treating my body the way it should be treated, both inside and out...and I'm going to do that with olive oil.  Did you know there are countless ways to incorporate olive oil into your everyday life? If you're looking for a fresh start this new year, "just add olive oil" is going to be your mantra. Olive oil makes being healthy easy, fun and not to mention delicious. Not sure where to start?

Here are 10 healthy and easy ways to infuse olive oil into your daily routine:

7:00AM -  Wake up & oil pull

Start your morning off right. This type of oral therapy dates back 3,000 years. Studies show that this method helps against gingivitis, plaque, and microorganisms that cause bad breath. As soon as you wake up, swish about 1 tablespoon of olive oil in your mouth up for 20 minutes and spit it out. Rinse mouth out with salt water immediately after (to get rid of any remaining toxins) and go about your day, toxin-free!

8:00AM -  Whip up olive oil waffles

The breakfast of champions. Who doesn't like to start their day with fluffy, flavorful waffles? After trying our incredible virgin waffle recipe, you'll never make regular waffles again! Adding olive oil to your waffle mix heightens the flavor and offers better health benefits than using butter. 12:00PM - Make a super salad

It's lunchtime and you're on the go. Here's something refreshing and easy - a Virgin Vinaigrette! 3 parts EVOO, 1 part vinegar with a pinch of salt and a crack of pepper. Whisk in 1/4 teaspoon of Dijon mustard for a pungent kick.

6:00PM - Put together a simple pasta

You're just getting home from work and need to start thinking about dinner. Growing up, we always ate Spaghetti Aglio e Olio, which is a pasta sauce made from garlic (Aglio) and Olive Oil (Olio). Sometimes, we add a variety of fresh herbs, vegetables or grilled chicken for a twist on this classic recipe.

...or saute vegetables

This is a simple, healthy and delicious addition to a meal. It's one of our favorite things to do with our flavored olive oils. Try drizzling our Meyer Lemon Olive Oil over blanched broccoli, braising Brussels sprouts with our Bacon Olive Oil, or roasting potatoes with our Rosemary Olive Oil.

...or grill chicken

Now for the main course. A lot of healthier diets include chicken, but how about grilling it with olive oil? Try Lavender Lemon Grilled Chicken for a boost in flavor AND health benefits!

7:00PM - Bake a healthy treat

Time for something sweet to finish off the meal. My secret ingredient: Olive Oil. Try an olive oil cake or Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookies!

Butter can almost always be replaced with olive oil when baking. Not only does it make your baked delight light and fluffy, but it also gives it added nutrients that butter lacks.

8:00PM - Take off makeup

Do you face a favor and remove mascara, eyeliner, foundation all with olive oil - a gentle, yet effective way to take off your makeup. Take a quarter size amount of oil into your hand and rub it over your eyes, cheeks, etc. Wet a washcloth with water and dab the area with the oil until all the makeup is removed.

Wash your face

Have you ever seen the ingredients list on your daily facial cleanser? I'll bet you can't pronounce more than half of the harsh chemicals that you wash your face with every day, sometimes even twice a day. Is this really what you want you to be exposing your delicate skin to on a daily basis? Probably not. Using olive oil to wash your face as your daily cleanser means that it will naturally dissolve the dirty oils on your skin without stripping it or using harsh chemicals. This method is easier, healthier, and actually more affordable!

Moisturize your Body

This is a healthy way to hydrate your skin. EVOO is packed with antioxidants which naturally gives it anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti-aging properties. Vitamins K and E protect against the free radicals that produce cell oxidation, making it effective in treating common skin disorders like acne, psoriasis, eczema, and diaper rash. Squalene is another component found in EVOO. It promotes skin elasticity, diminishes age spots, and boots cell regeneration and oxygenation. This keeps my skin smooth and youthful.
